The project also involved the sharing of conversation and a snack with the people who are forced to live in their own village - those who suffer from leprosy. We were joined by our two Australian volunteers who are currently volunteering at the Anglican Junior High School.

Priscilla off to Nurses College
(September 2014)

Our very first post on this news page, and VAF's very first project, was the initial payment of school fees to allow Priscilla to attend senior high school. VAF ended up sponsoring Priscilla all the way through high school and post school life, and over four years later she has now been accepted to Nurses Training College! VAF will continue to aid her through College until she has graduated and can provide for herself by working as a fully qualified nurse.

Workshop Construction Continuing
(May 2014)

A journey of a million miles they say begins with one step. Yes, the VAF workshop project is gradually getting to a stage of usage where we have just finished with the casting of the ground floor concrete roofing. We have now to concentrate on the ground floor fittings and fixtures and hopefully, by the end of this year, we will be able to move our office and community library into the building. Any financial support that can be provided will go a long way to securing the future of VAF.

Volta Aid Foundation has partnered one of Rotary International Districts, District 9102 in West Africa consisting of Ghana, Benin, Togo and Niger to hold our flagship diabetes outreaches in 8 communities in the Adaklu District. Celebrating Xmas at Children's Friend Orphanage
(December 2013)

We celebrated Christmas this year with the children of Children's Friend Orphanage in Adaklu-Goefe. Gifts for the children included sandals, underwear and some reading books. Happy as they were, they all wanted to have the sandals with the flashing lights but only a few got a pair of those! Thank you to Adrienne Buckley for her support while staying with the children.

Construction on our piece of land is steadily moving along. The foundations are in place, the ground floor is taking shape and we are hoping soon to complete at least the office room so we can move from our current rented premises. Once completed the building will be a multipurpose facility for our office, a workshop and some bedrooms.

The team of Tough Mudders in Brisbane, Australia competed in the event this month and got down right dirty for a good cause - the Family Support Scheme.
